The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area The Electrical Bay 7" Headlight bulb w/10 LED- LED Function?

Hello all-
On this headlight bulb, I'm not understanding their description of the LED (amber) portion of the light assembly.

Can the LED lights be wired to function as a turn signal? Is that what they are saying? Or daytime running lamps?

Apologies if this is a dumb question; I'd normally not even consider these because of the cost, but it would be a convenient package as headlights and turning lights in one assembly.

Thanks for any advice, and they would be going on a 12V 55.2 w/235.

I put in a similar set up in my panel truck; but where yours are LED..mine are conventional bulbs.
You could use it as a turn signal … that's how mine are set up. My original parking lamps are just that… parking lamps.

Here's the dirty little secret on those, however….. You will need to spend a LOT of time modifying your headlamp bucket assemblies to accommodate these bulbs. Yes, they 7 inches in diameter at the front, but their shape at the back requires you to cut out a lot of material to get them to sit just right. I had some spare buckets so when I converted to these I had a back up plan.

The turn signal sections on mine are not real bright compared to the brightness of the headlamp and is hard to distinguish when it's on. They ARE very bright and draw a LOT of juice, so connect them using a relay kit or they will cut out on the thermal overload on the switch.

They do look cool once installed, tho.!

Thanks on the fitment heads-up, Mike. I'm still going to think on these bulbs with the LED in them...

I definitely have PLENTY of other metal modifications and repairs that take priority; still nice to know they could work as turn signals.

And anything would look better than the turn signal lamps on my truck grill lower right now. They look like Louie the Lightning Bug standing on his head.

Buy it when you need it. I have bought several great-idea parts and did not get around to use them until several years later. If the part does not work (at all or for a short amount of time) several years after buying it, only a very good vendor will consider replacement/refund.

So far, the headlights (that I just removed to take my fenders to bla$t) are still functioning. The "Louie-the-lightening Bug" turn signals are toast, however. And I'm going to patch the holes they resided in on the bumper filler metal.

My arm can signal turns just fine, and that's what I used the first two years I drove the truck anyways. Somebody somewhere will have the LED-compensated headlights installed... I'll wait on buying them.

On new vehicles, that type of arrangement would probably not allowed without the headlight off feature. A lot of modern cars turn the headlight off when the signal is going so that it can be seen.
