1948 Chevy 3100 truck-

The engine casting number on my motor is GM3 3885849,

I can't find the number on the sites I have found with casting numbers. Any ideas or how to interpret?

Could the code be 3835849?
1952/53 216

Post the engine serial number and the block date casting code.

I am pretty sure that's what it is but will verify tonight. I found the number on the distributor side of the engine and up front towards the fan side. It was hard to see being so close to the frame. Where is the head number located?

For locations of all codes, please look at the link that I posted above.

You are correct. I was able to take a picture with my camera and the number is 3835849. Since the truck is a 1948, i guess at some point the owner swapped engines for some reason.
