I just recently bought a 1952 3/4 ton truck. Love it, and what a find! It was a small town fire station's water truck since new, a local farmer bought it in 1981, used it a couple of years and it was in a shed the rest of the time, then I bought it. Superficial light rust, and just under 18,000 miles! Seriously! Awesome huh?! I plan on making a daily driver out of it, which doesn't take much. I am having the normal problems sourcing the recirculating heater core, (the round donut cut in half). A heater is an item high on the list, here in soon-to-be-very-cold Iowa.

Unfortunately, I don't have time to rustproof it with POR15 or something similar before winter sets in, so for this year, as soon as the darn sodium gets sprayed on the roads, I will have to stop driving it.

I want to do most of the work on it myself, but I work at farmers co-op and right now at harvest my hours are 12-17 hrs a day, 7 days a week. So it is at a local shop getting the brakes redone (blew a wheel cylinder on the drive home) and a couple of other minor things done to make it driveable. It runs great, purrs like a kitten, but no heater! :ohwell:

Glad to be here with Ol' Blue! I also have a '79 C-10, which is my primary driver. I hate new trucks!

Welcome to the Stovebolt Page! Start a free linkstyle page for photos like a photobucket ect and post a link so we can see your trucks. Also hit the swap meet for a parts wanted post so you can get that heater before it gets to cold.

Welcome Kathleen, sounds like you have the addiction. Good score, too. The fire trucks were usually low mileage, well maintained trucks. About the heater, I was able to find one on this site in the swap meet section. Be sure to check it out. Good luck with it.

Welcome to the Stovebolt, Kathleen. Sounds like you have "trucking" experience. Great to have you aboard and good luck on the heater core.

....my panel came from Iowa. Was an Ace hardware delivery vehicle.

Hi Kathleen,

Welcome to the forum, I am fairly new too. I also have a 52 6400 that I'm getting back together. Also have a 50 3800 and a 52 3100 I would like to get to some day. Best of luck with your "new" pickup.

To remedy my heater wants, I bought a Vintage Air Gen2 Heater Defrost. $230 is better than $400+ for original. I want functionality more. But I am not sure if I can use a 12 volt converter, which goes to 15amps, or I will have to have an auxiliary 12 volt battery to power it only. But first I have to install it, no garage to work in and it was 5 deg F here yesterday! I did drive it Sun afternoon, froze my butt off, but had a blast! Have a leaky radiator, so probably will have to replace that soon too. *sigh*
