Took Thor ('59 1.5 ton) out yesterday and the right rear brake kept locking up....and I mean hard! Put it in reverse and sometimes it would release, and sometimes not. Same with forward gear.
Pulled the drum today, expecting to find a busted spring or something. Nope, nada, nothing visible seems to be the issue. Pried up on the shoes and the springs returned them to correct position. No one to step on the brakes so I could watch, so...
Took it back on the road and screech!!!! Lock up again. What do you think? It's only the RR, all the other brakes seem to be OK. Something restricting the flow of brake fluid back to the MC in that line?
Thanks for you help.

Are the bakes adjusted up properly? Any rust inside on the drum surface? | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,002 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,002 | Linings looked good, new a couple years ago when I rebuild the brake system. Cylinders are dry and drum is nice and shiny. Backed off the adjusters quite a bit to get the drum off, and did not tighten them down when I reassembled. My thinking was that maybe the springs are not retracting the shoes enough, and if I leave more space between the shoes and drums, maybe they won't lock up. Guess that didn't work.
Thanks for your reply.

If so, I would then crack the bleeder on that cylinder to see what happens. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,002 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,002 | Thanks truckernix, that's a good thought. Will try that and see what happens.
