Does anyone know the reason why there is no outside door lock on drivers side? :confused:

Rayman welcome to the Stovebolt Page! The story that I have heard goes something like this. Back in the days of these truck you were suposed to exit the truck on the curb side (parallel parking) Thus you would lock the passenger side door.

That is the story I've heard, too. Even without today's safety regulators, the designers came up with the idea--for safety reasons.

All the ranchers, farmers, construction workers, railroaders, and cowboys probably thought the designers were nuts.

Did you ever try to climb over the shifter and emergency brake lever wearing heavy clothes, coveralls, or boots? :mad: :mad: After the first try, I'll bet the truck was never locked, or you got the shotgun to reach over and flip the lever.

Thanks for the info, I just got done refabing a lockable door latch for my drivers door, using a spare passenger latch and lock, and a little time. The bends in the main links were all backwards, had to cut apart and flip and carefully reweld, drill, rivet, and align, but most of pieces can be used from passenger assembly. The lock cyl. will mount upside-down on drivers door. The door frame had to be trimed out and rewelded, and hole cut in door for lock cyl. I think I have a good idea, and it all looks original...
