I am at the point where I am ready to remove the cab on my 42 truck. Any advise to make this go smooth and easy would be appreciated. What is the best way to strap the cab for removal. Can standard rafters support it? Is it to heavy to set on the ground... will this damage it?

Im in the process of doing a 42.We removed my cab by hand.Removeing the doors,seats,gastank made it easy enuff to handle.I also removed the wind shield for added caution.The only thing i didnt do that id do next time is remove the steering colum.We slid it foward and then tilted it back over the colum.Iwill remove it be fore i put the cab back on.Another thing to think abought is what to put it on.Iput two 2x4s uder the cab sideways and put it on a furniture dolly.This made it easy to move around the shop but i ended up damageing the rocker pannels.I had to move it a couple weeks ago to haul it to a guys for hole repair.This time i used the four blocks of wood from the box and ran 2-8 ft2x4s the long way and bolted it useing the cab bolt holes.Kinda like puting it on a strecher with two short one going undr them the narrow way.This kept the cab and rockers abought an inch off the ground.Iwould recomend unscrewing and removeing the rocker pannels before cab removal.I had three helpers when i lifted my cab off but iff the box is already off i would think a variation of my strecher could be put on the cab while on the frame and 2 people could remove it easy enough.The guy that did my repair has a 41 and he gave me a frame he made out of steel tube to hold his on.IT is a very simple design and works fantastic.If you like ill take a couple of pics.I hope this helps and you dont make my mistakes.

Hello, Slowrider is right about needing to take off the rocker panels. Me and my 16 year old son is doing a 45. He took off everything that can be removed including the rocker panels. I don't think the bare shell weighs more that 200 lbs. The two of us removed it by hand quite easily. But when we set it on the ground the bottom rear corners wanted to bend in. So, you definitly need to set it on some kind of dolly. Our pics are here if you want to check it out. john.

heres a pic of my cab on the stand.This makes it a whole lot easier to work on .Ican tilt it and put it on a furniture dolly and move it my self.There are also nuts welded on a tab on each leg for casters.the cab is bolted douwn useing the stock cab mount holes. rons 42 truck pics the pic is the last one in my 42 album.i couldnt get the single pic up ,sorry
