I have a 53 chevy truck I have a in line ballast resistor with ignition coil does anyone know if I need that extra wire coming off side post of starter switch that classic parts says to run in aid of starting ?

It can help with cold starts. And it was standard on the Task Force Trucks. If you have the starter switch with the post I would use it. Just a wire from the post to the coil. A couple of zip ties and off you go. Cheap and easy way to help with cold starts.

Ok I will use it I wasn't sure if the truck would start without it ?

It will start and run with out the extra wire from the starter, just helps get a good hot spark with the starter pulling hard on the battery.
