Hi my first post. I built a farm tractor out of a 59 chevy truck. It was rolled. I removed the cab shortened the frame replace the front axle to a 3/4 ton. It has a 250 engine a combine HYD pump and 3point hitch. That was about 12years ago. I need the bearings that go on the input shaft top and bottom of the worm.I dont know what it was but i think it was a 1 1/2 ton it had 6 lug wheels.I have looked high and low. I think tomorrow i will go to a junk yard and get one of off a 57 but it has sat out one summer and i dont know what it will be like. Doug

I got the box off the 57 today. It was cheap 20.00 but the grease that came out of it makes me think it had water in it. Also what holds the outer tube of the steering column in the box? This one is bent. The steering shaft is also bent but i will probable only use the bearings and races from the new box.

the 'tube' [mast jacket] is part of the box, it doesn't come off unless you cut it off

I end up puting the parts in the old box and useing my old worm and steering input shaft. I took the box the worms nut off the worm that holds the ballbearings. When i went to put it back together i had one of those moments were i thougth maybe i shouldnt have taken it apart but i figuerd out how to put the balls back in.If this was on a road going rig i may not have done this because of the off chances it could fail goihg down the road.
