I am in the process of converting to front disk brakes. I have been trying to remove the backing plate and was able to get the top bolts removed but not the bottom two. The bottom bolts seem to go all the way through to the back part of the spindle to attach the steering linkage. its a 53 3600 or 3800, the 3/4 ton axle. Both ends of the bolt are threaded and then it seems to have a nut in the middle. The tolerances are so close that I cannot get a wrench on the nut. I have a picture but have no idea how to attach it.

Where did you get your upgraded kit from? I just put my front end together and got mine from Tucker. 1951 3100. The kit you recieved should have the correct bolts in there to replace the current bolts holding the back plate on. Ensure that you look at your instruction manual that came with your kit. I have a digital copy of mine if you need it.
FYI, I have no back plate on mine anymore. Just the spindle, disc, and hub with obvious bearing upgrades. You might be able to see the brakes in one of my pictures.

I do not have a kit yet. I have been researching some different options and trying to piece parts together. I have been having a hard time finding disc brakes for a 3/4 ton. I am looking at using rotors from a 01-07 3500 Van and calipers from an 80's era K10 truck. As far as the caliper brackets, I was looking at making my own or buying some. Still not sure yet.

Thanks for the info. I think I will go my route. Parts are easily available. Also, I was able to get the backing plate off with a BFH!!
