The original did not cover the full rim and it had lettering on it.
A full wheel cover on 47-55 Chevrolet trucks was only available in 54/55 and it was not a "full moon" design.

I have not seen codes for the paint used on 1952 painted hubcaps. In 1953, the painted hubcaps were Thistle Gray and the bumper was Anvil Gray.
I think that Jim Carter is incorrect about the color of the hub caps he is selling (at one of Bill's link). Since the bumpers were Anvil Gray and the hubcaps and inner grill were Thistle Gray (in 1953 and I'd bet in 1952).
The standard hubcaps were painted in 1954 - Thistle Gray (bumpers again Anvil Gray). Chrome hubcaps were optional in 1954 (and had different markings than in earlier years).

A lot of guys used them on street rods and sometimes drag racing. They were attached with screws and made by the Moon co. I believe was in So. Calif. of course. In 1961, I had a 57 Chevy with small chrome "baby moons". They have been popular a long time. Steve | | |
