Is a 1 ton rear same as a 1 ton front bumper?

Is the rear bumper bracket bolted to outside of 1 ton frame channels?

Does the bracket curve down ward or upward?

Thanks , Jerry

Not on a pickup.

Yes, on a panel-body.

As for the mounting of the brackets, check out mine.

OK, To answer any questions out there, here is what I have discovered and it answers my own question. The 3800 panel rear bumper matches its front, curvature of its brackets are identical. They appear identical to the 3804 1 ton pickup front bumper. The 3804 one ton rear bumper is a breed of its own, being quite straight when comparing it to the one ton truck front and panel front/rear. If that is as clear as mud to you, then you understand it as well as I, Using a 1 ton rear from a panel will NOT work on a 1 ton pickup. Any questions, contact me. Jerry

That is almost correct:
- the front and rear bumpers on a 1-ton panel-body are the same
- the front and rear bumpers on a 1-ton pickup would indeed be different because GM apparently did not sell a rear bumper (did you find a part number for a rear bumper?)

1929-1957 Master Parts Book (SGL. UNIT indicates Panel body trucks)
What parts book are you referring to?

Pickup
- front = 3700437/painted (3683347/chromed)
- rear = no rear bumper listed?

Panel
front = 3700437 (3683347/chromed)
rear = 3700437 (3673347/chromed)

Wishful thinking by me Tim? , Maybe I read between the lines. Any how, you are correct. I was looking at that same parts book and recall seeing the same numbers.

I was surprised to find no rear bumper listed.

A rear bumper was an option on the 3800 series trucks.

The rear frame widths on the 3600 and larger trucks was 36" with the exception of 6702 and 6802 chassis.

I do remember seeing a part listing for that had the same brackets and bumper for the 3600 and 3800 truck.

With that being said, a 3600 rear bumper would be a direct fit.
