| | | | Anonymous Unregistered | | Anonymous Unregistered | I am talking to one of my engineer buddies and he tells me he thinks he really screwed up when washing his truck the other weekend. In his efforts to get road tar off, he found that an abrasive sponge worked pretty good. He also found when the truck dried that the paint looked pretty hazy in all the areas he had scrubbed down. He put on a couple of coats of wax afterward and rubbed it out till the cows came home, but it still looks like carp. It is a metalic gold color with a clear coat - late model Toyota Tacoma. I seriously doubt that it is too course to polish out, but not being there, I can't say for sure. It probably needs to be sanded with 1000,1500,2000 then polish to get them out. If he polished through, all bets are off, it is repaint time.
My view on the engineer issue is he knows NOTHING about anything other than engineering. There is nothing wrong with that, engineering is HIS thing. You wouldn't believe how many times my brother the mechanic has heard "My husband could do it, he is a jet mechanic, he just doesn't have the time." Give me a break, Jet airplanes though more complex than a car are NOT the same thing. That is like a dentist "not wanting to take the time" to do a tonsillectomy.
The engineer should respect what I know about my trade as much as I respect him and his trade.

Engineers are people who know a great deal about a few things. Salesmen are people who know very little about a great deal of things. Business owners start out knowing everything about anything, but end up knowing nothing about anything due to their association with salesmen and engineers.
I think Mechaniac's got the best approach; equalize!
