Im putting a 1962-261 in a 52 p.u. i have the bell housing off the 62 chevy p.u [3817816],the hydraulic clutch on the drivers side. Also have an earlier pass-side clutch bell housing [3701433]. My question is which one to use. Im thinking advantages of hydralic clutch but if Id have to do major mods, no. It would save me a ton of work if i knew the correct motor mounts and B/H to use. thanks stovebolt rescue squad!!!! | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | The easiest way is to use the bell housing & starter from the original engine. That bell housing with the opening on the right side is in big demand. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | The only way is to do as Wrenchbender Ret. describes.
The base-angles of the motor mount cross members are different 47-53 vs 54-59 (and later).

It will be easier to use the one the truck is designed to use. (bell crank vs Clutch Master cylinder) Not withstanding the Motor/Bell HSG/cross member issue the guys have mentioned. If both are Hydraulic it's just a plumbing thing. No big deal, not withstanding...

He cannot use the 1962 clutch housing - it will not mount on the 1952 cross member.
And yes, all 1952 pickup clutches were mechanical (hydraulic clutches were not used/available even on larger, non-pickup, trucks).

Unless I have read the dates incorrectly, 1952 is being compared with 1962?
There was no hydraulic clutch in 1952.
No need to worry about plumbing. Use the clutch housing from original truck.
And, use the clutch assembly that works with whichever flywheel you need to use (6v or 12v flywheel).
My guess is the 1962 hydraulic clutch housing is not as valuable as a non-hydraulic 54-62 clutch housing. However, a big-truck owner might be interested in a spare hydraulic clutch set-up.
