Installed new battery, positive cable got hot and terminal burned off cable. Positive/negative connections are correct. Engine did not turn over and starter did not engage. I am thinking that the starter is bad or maybe solenoid or foot starter switch? Any suggestions? Thanks | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,270 Renaissance Man | | Renaissance Man Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,270 | Apply 12 volts from a battery charger directly to the positive post on the starter and a good ground and push down on the starter switch on the starter. Starter should spin without engaging the flywheel (since you aren't stepping on the stomp starter). If the starter spins, you may have a bad battery cable (internal corrosion).

Melted 2 batteries before we figured it might be the starter. It was pulling almost 300 amps for some reason. Have the starter tested.
