I have a 1970 C60 bobtail dump that I picked up on a state auction. It came from a small town. I bought it to pull my backhoe from time to time. I have worked on it for months trying to make it roadworthy.( their maintenance left a little to be desired!)It has air brakes and a 32,000 lb gvw. The steering has a hydraulic assist cylinder.I went to have it inspected and the shop said the drag link needed to be replaced.Well the truck is 44 years old. Nobody has books that even list a part number for it, let alone a part. If you find one look in section 6.870 for your link part number. You may need to find out what front axle you have (7000 or 9000 pound), that might make a difference on parts. Check the data label on the glove box door. This axle is a 10 lug axle which makes me think it is the heavier duty axle, I am planning to swap the axle into my current C50 but, unless I need the drag link for the swap, I'd be glad to sell it. If it has any identifying marks please let me know and I'll check mine. Also my axle is manual steering although the truck I plan to install the axle in has ram type power steering. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,961 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,961 | The book calls for a 687108 for use with p/s. With a 32,000 it must be either a 9,000 or 11,000 axle. It is probably a 9,000 with a 23,000 rear. Apparently the 9k and 11k steering axle use the same drag link. My book only goes up to the 60 series. A 70 or 80 series would probably use the same steering axle. The tough part is going to be the p/s. Just not many trucks that size were specced with p/s. | | |
