The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop AD front end modifications

I recently changed careers from working on cars to working on heavy trucks. Wrenching on all those big cornbinders all day got me thinking how much easier it would be to do routine maintenance, etc. on an AD if it had a tilt-up front clip. Has anyone here ever done this mod? I'm not thinking about fiberglass, more along the lines of fastening the original sheetmetal together in one piece and having it hinge forward. Any thoughts? TIA.

Your no. 1 problem would be weight. You would definitely want some type of big time assist.

Thanks all, for your thoughts. Buddy, thanks especially for the link-some good detailed construction shots there, as well as the owner/builder's explainations. I'm always glad to see folks who actually EXPLAIN what they did and how they did it on their sites.

I was thinking of doing something similar, however splitting the fenders JUST outside of the actual flange where they bolt to the cowl sides (make it look closer to stock). If I did something like that I'd also want to retain the front bumper, etc. so some more thought or "imagineering" is in order. In fact, the gears are turning now...
