So I just received my 1946 2 ton grain truck. She's a beaut! However, the pack rats in Kansas stuffed it from top to bottom with soybeans. A great majority of which decomposed and now the cab has a horrific odor. I cleaned out the cab completely, removed the seat, gas tank, all of the rotting soybeans and power washed and bleached the interior. THE SMELL IS STILL THERE! (not as bad as before but still lingering) Does anyone have suggestions on how to rid this truck of this smell?? Thanks!!!

I did a bleach mix solution, maybe I'll try straight bleach.

The problem will resolve itself in a few months. Now that it's clean, leave it out in the freezing weather this winter with the windows down whenever the weather permits (not in a snowstorm!) There's something about freezing clean metal that deodorizes it. I've attempted to clean several refrigerators that lost power and ended up with rotten meat inside, and until we turned the thermostat down as low as possible, the stink didn't go away, even after repeated bleach cleanings. Good luck!

Carl and Jerry are both right, however,I like Jerry's method better. You wouldn't have to worry about pressurized water getting your wiring and connections wet,as well as your gauge cluster. That could lead to further problems down the road. Not to mention the choke, throttle, and heater cables. Remember how our parents, and all the relatives used to smoke? Granny would open all the windows,on a brisk, breezy day,and even the furniture and bedding would smell a lot fresher,in a couple of hours! I've tried de-odorizing old refrigerators,as Jerry points out, too. Bleach and other cleaners just don't erase the odors, like frozen CLEAN surfaces. Keep your seat in a well-ventilated area over the winter, too. You may not even need "Febreze"!

I had a foot of rat poop in my bus && it smelled of urine when I bought it. NOTHING killed the smell except one thing a good germicidal cleaner. The stuff I got from the local hardware store said it could be used in hospitals & would kill all kinds of nasty bugs including the deadly hantavirus & if you've had mice or rats, better safe then sorry. I mixed up 3 gallons & soaked the inside of the bus down & by the time I was done the smell was gone..joe
