The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area The Electrical Bay Ignition switch upgrade

With new wiring in my '50 AD I am trying to find an accessory style ignition switch that fits well in the dash in the original location. The one that came with my EZ Wiring kit and a '55 car switch I had have cases that are too large. They touch the back of the dash where it curves making it hard even to line it correctly with the original switch hole. Any body else run into this problem and/or have suggestions how to deal with it or know of a switch that fits easily? I really don't want to modify or bend the dash if I don't have too.

probably hard to find one with an accessory position that doesn't have a pretty fat body, but might check with a FLAPS for generic ignition switches of the type used on forklifts, some have longer threaded 'snouts'

OK. I wasn't aware of forklift size. I did see a you tube where a hole was drilled higher to accommodate a switch. The result actually didn't look too bad or out of place. I might consider doing that. Come the think of it, the guy might have used the choke or throttle hole. Truck was modified, so he wouldn't need either one I suppose.

A generic as Bill says, switch,or a Marine Grade switch will work.
Not as fat around or short as a sixtys stock GM unit.
Has ACC OFF ON START positions.
A Marine switch is Brass bodied and threaded for the entire length of the snout.
Means You can mount it virtually flush with the face of the Dash.
That puts the fat bodied part almost even with the rear of the bottom dash flange.
