The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop converting a 3200 to a 3100

A guy who's selling a 55.2 1/2 ton claims that it was a long bed and he had it cut down and replaced the bed. So now, the 3200 is a 3100. Anybody heard of that being done? Is it a reasonable thing to do?

I've seen a couple w/ that done - works fine if a good welder does it and the shortened frame is checked carefully for square measure underneath corner to corner someplace and look at where the welds are - best done at an angle or stepped, and on the TF series I think right at the cross member behind the cab [so the box fits on right] - good idea to gusset or box there too
