Been having issues with my fuel tank. Looks like it was treated with Red Kote but it was a poor job. I tried using acetone to get the stuff out but that just made it worse. What can I use to get this gunk out or should I scrap it and go with a new one?

Thanks
Andy

Is the tank under the seat or is it attached along the frame. If it is frame mounted, there are no reproductions so you will have to repair the one you have, fabricate a new one, or hunt for one that you can adapt. A seasoned radiator gas tank repair shop can clean out your old one and apply sealer. New under seat tanks are relatively inexpensive.

I've had pretty good luck boiling them out overnight at an old time radiator shop. My guy strongly discourages any sealer afterwards. Says they all tend to fail sooner or later. His feeling is if you keep it full of gas it won't rust. Seems to work.
