on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 248 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 248 | I am trying to help a fellow collector from the Czeck Republic identify what I think is a 194 or 207 engine. Language is an issue so I am looking for visual identification.
Engine is dressed with a 216 valve cover. It has an updraft intake manifold. The dizzy location has no pad for a serial number. The crankcase ventilator hole is on the carburator side. On the carb side you can actually see the curve of each cylinder in the casting as oppose to the smooth side of a 235. Bellhousing is slightly different with engine mounts on the front face of the housing.
Cast in the block... a few inches and below the dizzy is
GM G 9 5 ( July 9th 1935 ??) 887591 - 8 correction 837591.....
Is there a web site where one can see pictures of the various Chev 6 of that period.
I am still trying to download the pictures he sent me but they seem to be protected by the posting site.
Thanks for you help guys.

In the last picture it shows the updraft carb set up..... what year was the vehicle....?
From the other engine number sites it seems to confirm a July 9th 1935 206.2 (207) block.
The poor fella was hoping to use it in a Canadian military vehicle circa 1940-45 as a replacement for a 216.
Obviously Chev six are not plentiful in that part of the world.
Thanks for your help.

They also have poured Babbit main bearings, different size and length connecting rods, and a bunch of other differences. I believe the 216 was first used in either 1936 or 37, so anything older will not be a good candidate for that swap. This one is supposed to be a 1930 engine- - - -not sure about the size. By 1933 they were using downdraft carbs. http://www.oldride.com/parts/subsetmr/81015095039700.jpgJerry

Definitely a poor candidate for a transplant into a 216 military truck.
Complete 216...fan to 3 speed tranny and Pontiac running 261 with 3 speed at $450 each asking on Kijiji Canada.
People must be cleaning up garages in anticipation of Winter.
