Will a 1970 chevy 4x4 frame work under a 1953 panel. I know it will be some work. Has anybody done this? Can someone tell me differences between 67-72 and 73-87? A lot of really smart people on here. Really great information, glad I joined. See most use a 73-87 frame. Can't really find good pics or dims on 70's frame.Thanks....

We used a 74' 4x4 short bed Chevy frame, you'll need to shorten a long bed. the 74' short bed wheelbase was 1" longer than the 51'Sub original frame, the axle width is where most 2wheeldrives find an issue. lifted springs is how we're sitting. Our plan included using a 6.0 liter engine, Dana 60 front and a corp 14 bolt rear. take a look at my {Progress}link for pic's, they should help give you an idea of what your up against.

Rock231. Check over on 67-72chevrolet.com site under the 47-59 tab. Many examples of frame swaps and the difficulties you will encounter. Not that difficult if you have good fab skills or buy a kit for the body mounts. That said boxing the original frame and dropping in a MII or Chevy subframe should be considered as an option. Good luck w your decision
