The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Paint Scheme for my '52

I am going to paint my truck like the one I saw on a T-Shirt I got from Chevyduty. The Pix is Below. I am going Red, White and Blue. It will look like the pix w/o the Pepsi Logo. Dig It! even though I'm not a Pepsi guy (Coke Is It). I'm pretty sure that there was a similar upper paint break on the last project truck from R.B.'s Obsolete-try their website. I think I'd try to follow the line of the fender top, about 6-8" up from fender and then go horizontal about 1/3 of the way down the door. Dude, are you still gonna be happy with this paint in 10 years' time?

If you paint your truck to look like a Pepsi can will it never rust? Where's that wookie when we need him.

I personally don't like it at all. It "cuts" the truck up. If the colors were more similar it wouldn't be so bad. But if the truck were viewed with a dark back ground you wouldn't even see the top of the truck and it would look like the top half was cut off. I have never understood the two tone fender thing. The rear fenders look like an add on, but the fronts are part of the lines on the truck. It is like painting the fenders on a 2002 Chevy truck different colors, would someone do that? Back in the thirties it worked, but when the fenders became a part of the hood, it changed all that.

Really good detailing is what makes a car or truck stand out. I can use one car after another that I have seen that were REAL stand outs. All were one color, just very well done. Many different colors take away from the lines on a car. If you can soften lines that don't look good or strengthen lines that you want to stand out that makes sense. But to paint a bunch of different colors just for the sake of being different, that does not.

The color should never be picked because it is simply a great color. It has to work on the car as well. An example is a Cad limo would look like crap in Candy Apple Red. A 1932 **** Roadster looks zero in plain white. Darker colors make cars look small while lighter colors make it look big. Light colors make body lines and gaps stand out while waves in the body disappear. Dark colors make the lines and gaps disappear and make the waves in the body stand out.

Color should not be taken lightly.

As MartinSR is the resident expert, I'd pay attention (I learned something about the light and dark colors) but have to disagree. I like the paint scheme on that shirt.

Give Pepsi a call and offer free advertising for the cost of the paint job...

I like it stovebolts are different but when you do something this then they become unique I drive my primered 52 down these mount.hiways not much to look at now but I still turn heads just imagine how many turns you'll get w/that paint job but MartinSR is right this decision should not be taken lightly good kuck

I could see it'd be a cool design even for a more subdued color scheme, for a slightly tricked out stock truck. Nice thinking.

Just to throw my 2 cents in here, I don't think that contrasting hood/fender colors look bad on an AD - they still have a fairly separate hood/fender design. A TF or later truck would look bizzare with the fenders and hood contrasting. I'm still working on ideas for my panel truck, but it's going to be a long, long time before paint comes into the picture.

Just think, if you ever had an accident it would look like a crushed Pepsi can.
