Hi,
Thanks in advance for any help. I purchased a 52 Chevy truck, and have the title in hand. Looked for the VIN plate, on the drivers side door pillar and it's gone! Since I have the title, I figured I could decode the VIN # RCK2******. The Model indicated on the title also has the letters " RCK"
This doesn't appear to be an engine or chassis #, from what I can tell. ( original engine long gone...) Any help appreciated!

Read through this to get started. Hopefully someone from SC will chime in with specific state requirements or help with the decipher of your posted code.

Here are 1952 truck Vehicle Serial Numbers & Engine Serial numbers.

None of them have your "RCK" preface.

I checked 47-62 years and cannot find "RCK" as a preface?

You should be able to get it registered using your title, but as Brad posted, it depends on your state/DMV.

Durbannite, Welcome to the Stovebolt and a big Southern Bolter welcome from me! What part of S.C. do you hail from? Close to Spartanburg or Greenville?

The OLD rule was an out of state vehicle had to be verified by taking your vehicle to the DMV or they would send someone out to your house to check it out and "OK" you for title transfer.
THEN.....
Here we go. Just two or three months ago I pulled a 50 coupe I had purchased to the DMV so they could check title to vehicle while I had it on the trailer. I knew all numbers checked out on title to the car, which was from Va.
When I told the "greeter" what I was doing and that the vehicle was outside and on the trailer she responded "oh, you didn't need to do that because we don't do that anymore".
I had the title in hand and ask her for forms to fill out for the new S.C. title. Nooo problem. When I told her I'd take them home and fill them out because I had just had cataract surgery and implants the lady at the "window" filled out the forms for me. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. Title arrived in about 10 days.

I'd take the title you have, fill out the "transfer" forms and go ahead and get the title in your name. Since you are not going to put it on the road right now you do not have to have a slip from the tax office. Just tell them you want title only at this time.
You can order a blank serial tag from some of the vendors and stamp your numbers in it. I do not consider this illegal as you already have a title and are not doing any hanky panky trying to use an old vin tag from another truck.

Durbanite, I guess they have changed the law about getting a "request for vehicle history". It hasn't been that long ago that "they" told me that they couldn't do it anymore due to privacy reasons. One thing I have found out is one DMV will tell you one thing while another will say something entirely different. Please let me know if you can actually still do this.

....oh, my father in law lives in Shalotte, just up from North Myrtle Beach. We were down there last week. I think we have several bolters in that area and maybe a GafFest is in order?
Need to get your buddy with the 37 on board here. This is the best old Chevy/GMC site on the web.
