We have a question from Miguel in Argentina:

I am from Argentina and I am finishing the restoration of my Chevy truck 54, right now I am a little worry because i can not make all the paper to be able to circulate, because on my truck is missing the plate of the VIN number, I only have the motor number.

I saw many thing about the vin number on your web site and I wondering if is possible find the VIN number with the motor number.

Here in Argentina on the 50th years a lot of cars and trucks does not has any register, so I can not find the VIN number in cars register database.

I hope you can help me.

I will direct him to look here to see what kind of solutions you can come up with for him.

Gracias,

Peggy M

He may be SOL if Argentina doesn't have a way to resolve that problem. I personally have no clue about vehicle registration in Argentina. If they won't take the engine number and there's no vehicle data plate he may be up the creek. Here are the locations of the '54 numbers.

Tiny has this covered.

Either the Engine Serial Number or the Vehicle Serial Number was used in the USA. I prefer the Vehicle Serial Number. He does not have that code.

Either one is unique in 1954.

The engine might not be a 1954 engine, however (things get changed over 60 years).

What is the engine serial number?

I just returned from several days there at one of our high-altitude mines. Argentina is made up of provinces and the provincial government where he resides will need to be consulted. This is solvable with the right official(s) and some $$$. Saw quite a few old trucks and equipment but did not have a chance to photograph but a couple.

I have not heard back from him on email yet. If he sends something tomorrow, I will post it.
