(51 chevy half ton) Took the truck for a ride all was well, It sat in the garage for about a week till i took it out for a ride again and for about a mile or so the rear tire(While Braking) locks up for a second making a small squeal when the rubber meets the road. This goes away after driving the truck maybe 3-5 miles,does not come back till the next drive after sitting over a few days. Took it apart looked ok ,adjusted the brakes back a bit SOS,should i get the drum cut to clean it up or ??????? Thanks for any feedback BJF | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | could be slight contamination like fingerprints on the shoes, will wear off, turning the drums will not help, but will shorten their useful life, might give them a rubdown with sandpaper and wipe them and the shoes with some Brake-Kleen .... next cruise try throwing some weight in the back of the bed

This must be done every time you replace the shoes. Your emergency brake cables may be adjusted up too tight or the cables are binding. It helps to file a champher on the edge of the shoes. I'm not sure if you've road tested the truck after backing the 'offending' shoe off,did it cure the problem?
