Planning on getting one after I'm married in April. I scour ebay and craigslist but they are either totally rotted out where I'm basically rebuilding with aftermarket sheet metal or they want 10 grand for a project. Am I looking in the wrong places or are these prices accurate? I don't need a driving truck, it doesn't even need to have an engine or transmission since I plan to rebuild it with modern tech. I just want the body to be I'm decent shape. What can I expect to pay for something like that? In southwest of Chicago in illinois but I wouldn't mind traveling or even paying shipping for a solid truck. | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 | Hard to say if they're accurate without seeing it personally, but the prices run the gamut on ADs. I would watch the ads on Stovebolt or even place a wanted ad in the "Trucks Wanted" forum. There are a couple of good buys now. Check jrdamien's ad under "Parts for Sale". A pretty complete truck in a rebuild stage.

Just wasn't sure if there was a hidden gem of a website. I look on auto tempest a lot as well. Thanks for the tips | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 124 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 124 | out here in California, an AD project truck with a solid body, stuck motor and broken glass is $1500 +/-.
if you're willing to drive, try "search tempest". its a craigslist search engine that lets you look all over the country with one search. | | | | Joined: Sep 2014 Posts: 13 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Sep 2014 Posts: 13 | 1500 seems very reasonable to me. I'd have no problem paying that. How much power can these frames handle? Looking to find one in April like I said so hoping they don't vanish until then. | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,597 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,597 | | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 338 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 338 | Buy it before getting married | | | | Joined: Aug 2014 Posts: 15 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Aug 2014 Posts: 15 | I've recently moved to Saskatchewan and can't believe the amount of vintage cars here. They do not salt the roads, and the weather is dry. Farm trucks especially tend to be used spring to fall. Kijiji is the preferred sight up here rather than Craigslist. Have a look, AD trucks come up all the time. I got mine for $1000. Complete and all original, patina rust but no holes, just surface rust. | | | | Joined: Sep 2014 Posts: 13 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Sep 2014 Posts: 13 | Thanks for all the feedback! I'm hoping to get my grandfather's truck. But I'm glad to know I will be able to find them reasonably priced if it comes to that. | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | What sort of problems would one encounter crossing the border into the states with an AD on a trailer?

But not 100 percent sure on that. | | | | Joined: Apr 2014 Posts: 924 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2014 Posts: 924 | Hidiy Brandon- I hope you get your grandfather's truck as well, especially since you wrote you learned to drive on it. You will probably encounter more problems SW of Chicago than crossing the border with a trailered truck. Buy it before getting married Or having children! (But, I have to admit, I did buy 'my' truck for my son :D) Brad

So she admitted the truck would be a good project for me. It is going to be a long project so the funds will be spread out. Have a garage to store and work on it so the hard part is actually obtaining the truck. | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,597 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,597 | | | | | Joined: Sep 2014 Posts: 13 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Sep 2014 Posts: 13 | Thanks brad will read up on this | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 85 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: May 2005 Posts: 85 | Hi Brandon,
My neighbor just bought a 51 Chevy truck in British Columbia and brought it home to Washington. As long as the paperwork is clean and complete, there should be no problem bringing it across the border.
If you have a little time, farm auctions often have one or more old pickups for sale. The better auctioneers will post pictures on line prior to the auction.
Good luck finding your project! | | |
