Do you have a 3-speed or 4-speed transmission? Jim Carter's exhaust system needs to be rebent to fit a 4-speed.

I have an SM420 tranny, but I also have a TCI Mustang II front end, the cross member fills the void from the the front original cross member to the drop in the pan pretty much. I did email Jim Carter asking for a diagram of the pipe routing. Also have a rear mounted gas tank between the frame, but there is at least 6" on each side between frame for running pipes, gotta be a rear pipe for the rap music. I'll wait to see if JC responds. #10578 01/06/2003 8:00 PM | Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: 127 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: 127 | I built my own from 2" straight pipe and mandrel bent (4) 45 angles and (2) 90 angles I bought from JC Whitney. The fentons have weird angles but I was able to cut the 90 degree bend down to the correct angle. Then just to the one side of the hump in the trans member. I am going for a down and dirty rod look not stock so I took the pipes out along the side with thrush glasspacks in the running board area stopping just short of the rear tire. I mig welded all the seams except for at the glasspack and painted them black. Once you have that first angle done its easy.
Having them bent would definitely have been easier and faster but I didn't feel like having my truck towed to a shop. I would definintely consider building them again but next time I think I would remove the front body work to make getting that first angle easier. That took me a few cuts to get right. I think I posted some pics of them here before but if you want to see them let me know. | | |
