hi guys, i have a 49 1.2ton and will be switching over to tube style shocks.

i have bought later oem brackets but need advice about where these should be mounted on the frame

does anyone/could anyone help out with dimensions, where on the frame to drill mount holes or where brackets sit?

cheers

Best I can tell by just sliding under the truck on the
cold garage floor in my pj's at 02:30 in the morning is this
for the rivets on the front: 10 1/4, 11 1/2, 13 1/2
This picture should show you roughly where they go in relation
to the front end of the frame:

Ever generous and sleepless Denny Graham to the rescue! I would only add, to put the shock in the lower mount first and hold it up to where DG indicates is the position of the upper mount, so you can determine the correct angle of the upper mount. Also make sure that there is sufficient weight on the frame to duplicate a fully assembled truck. I made that error and now my shock mounts are on the wrong angle.

Would there be any problem if the shocks were at a wrong angle? I can see if they were mounted vertically the would have problems and if they were angled too much. When I put tubulars on my 49 I made a frame/bolt template from my 53 using cardboard and then plexiglass so they wouldn't tear. It helped but am certain the mounts are not in the exact place they were on my 53. Maybe off a few degrees but the ride is fine. I used stock mounts salvaged from a wrecked chassis.

Well...if you put the holes where the rivets are located from
the front of the frame horn, I don't see how the angle could
be wrong. Unless of course the brackets aren't the same as
the stock ones.

Thanks denny et al,

im going to use stock brakets but i assumed my frame wouldnt have the holes in the right place as it originally had lever arms?

rear already appears to have tubular mount brakets.....?

didnt the 49 have lever arms front and back?

if not does the 49 take the same rear shocks and mounts as 50- trucks??

i have 2" lowering springs on the rear, i presume i need to get 2" shorter than normal rear shocks...does anyone know the stock length?

The only issue that I am having is extra stress on one edge of the rubber doughnut from the wrong angle.
