On my newly acquired 61 apache the previous owner installed a new master cylinder but never bled the brakes. I bled all the brakes and adjusted all the brakes till they started to grab a little. (I already dismantled the brakes and freed up the rusted adjusters and lubed the backing plates.)When I apply the brakes the right rear tire skids. When I spin the wheels when they are off the ground they all seem to have equal grab. Any suggestions?

how hard do you hit the brakes before the skidding? on dry pavement or gravel? maybe some brake fluid on the grabbing shoes - maybe the other side not adjusted up equally - maybe the fronts need adjusting more, they should be doing most of the braking

and please keep a single question to one, most appropriate forum

Bill, thanks for the suggestions. I have been posting in multiple forums as I am unsure which one is more appropriate and figured more exposure is better than minimal in the wrong forum.

Check the wheel cylinder.

I can explain it to you, I can't understand it for you.

I took the right rear drum off and found the wheel cylinder to be operating correctly and no leaks. I bled the rears again, sanded the shoes and drum. I have the steering column apart right now so I can not take it for a ride yet. I will keep you posted.

Sounds like the brake cable on that side is slightly pulled forward & is stuck & not releasing all the way.

Ive seen this happen dozens of times.
Im assuming this does have rear brake cables.

My 61 had this with the left rear brake. It turned out that the newish brake cylinder was rusted inside and therefore the cups did not re track as fast as the other 3 cylinders, causing this one to drag. Dismantled the cylinder and with very fine sanding paper and brake oil cleaned it up. Now perfect. If the truck is not driven a lot like mine, this seems to be a problem. So...the solution is to drive it more!
