1941 Chevy 1.5 ton , it has a 12v coil and iam running a 6v battery, will it need the 6v coil and will I eventually burn the 12v coil up ????? It's been had to crank lately

You're lucky it runs at all. The coil won't burn out- - - -it will just have a very weak spark. There's too much resistance in the primary coil winding to flow enough current to induce a good high voltage spark. Buy the right coil- - - -don't send a boy to do a man's job!
