Hello, I am unsure of what kind of rear end I have in my newly acquired 61 apache, and if it is original or not. I took pictures but do not know how to attach them to this post. The numbers stamped on it are MA 10 04. From what I can find from the internet MA is abase axle C14,built 10 month 04 day of the month. Is a C14 the same as a C10? The reason I question this rear end is, I am trying to purchase parking brake cables for this truck(currently there is only the front one which is rusted)and all pictures that I have seen of new rear cables look like the cable is attached to the backing plate with possibly two bolts , where my backing plate only has the one large hole in it. Can someone please give me some direction as?

Good day HerrOtto. Yes the C-10 is the generic ID for a 1/2 ton. Your C-14 is a short wheelbase, the C-15 is a long wheelbase. Fourwheel drives were K-14 / K-15

The 3 cables are still available from various vendors, advise them as to what wheelbase you have.
The rear ones do mount in the round holes in the lower part of the backing plates. You will need to remove the brake shoes to squeeze the "fish gill" retainers on the cable.
Have fun with your new found truck.
Howie

Howie, thanks for the reply. Is there a way I can post pictures on this site. My backing plate has one hole about 3/4" round. Any picture I have seen on internet sites of the cables for my year truck w/shortbed, have a mounting bracket w/two holes in it to mount to the backing plate. My backing plate just has the one large hole. This is why I am wondering if the rear end is not original. I really dislike having a vehicle w/standard transmission and no parking brake, especially when I am having running problems with the truck. Thank you

Check out www.inlinetube.com

They probably have what you need. If not they can replicate what you need if you send an original. John

Johnnywaz212, thank you for the suggestion, unfortunately I only have the old front cable, no rears. The inlinetube site does not have a picture of the rear cables, so I am unsure if they would be correct or not.
