After re-building a donor carb,and replacing the cab-to-frame line,as well as the fuel pump,(frame) feed line, "'Mo'Tater" is up and running again! I primed the carb,and it started right up,and kept idling!! I connected the vacuum gauge to the line from the intake manifold to the hydrovac,and adjusted the fuel/air mix. It's dead-center in the "green"! no more vacuum leak!! It must've been something with the original carb. I still had the timing light hooked-up.and with a 1/16th turn of the dizzy,"she's" right on the mark! Now I know why I installed the H.E.I.-you barely touch the stomp--and "She's" purrin' like a kitten!! I drove it to the gas station,(about dusk),and "there's no "hitch to this git-along"! Runs GREAT!! Good News Good News!! Love It!! Hope Y'All had a GOOD day,as well!!

Thanks,Mike!! That vacuum leak was driving me BATTY!! That different carb,(off a truck that sat for 30 years),made all the difference in the world!! This is the BEST it has run,since I owned the truck! Got off work tonight,and it's about 55 degrees. I pulled the choke,one pump on the gas,hit the stomp,and INSTANT start!! "It doesn't get any better than this"!! HOO YA!!

It's always a good feeling when you figure out how to kill a gremlin isn't it. Good job.

What brand HEI dizzy did you buy and where did you buy it from?

There's no name on it,(distributor), that I can see,but it works well,and came with everything for a quick,professional installation.Has a connection for tach,as well Vacuum-advance..Seller is VERY HELPFUL!! Only problem is, the mounting gasket leaks. There's a split in the base,for timing,that gets tightened with an Allen wrench. I had to gob Permatex in the crack,to keep my fresh yellow paint from getting stained. Hopefully it will hold until the next tune-up. Brand new unit for about $160.00/FREE SHIPPING!!

Speaking of swap meets, I bought an HEI at the Pate Swap back in April. Brand new. Paid $55 for it. Thought it was a good deal. It's the large diameter style. Have seen some that are much smaller like original distributors. Bought it to put in a 350 V8 when I do then conversion on the '51 half ton but might buy another to put in the 216 six in my '50. It's all original and I thought since your engine ran so well with one it might be worth the effort to put one in mine. You were very enthusiastic!

I bought mine back in March,and the price was $198.00. It is the large diameter style,(6 cylinder),but now the price is reduced to $159.00! even with the (fixed), oil leak,the starter will last much longer,since it starts immediately,instead of cranking for a minute or two. Better performance,as well. I haven't checked the fuel mileage,yet,but should see a positive change there,as well. I helped a friend install a Petronix unit,on a '59 Viking 60 bus. It,too,has a 261. It hasn't run good since. Starts hard,3-5 minutes of cranking,and doesn't perform well. Rough idle,as well as no power during acceleration.0-45 in about 4-5 minutes!! He's planning on purchasing a H.E.I.,as well.
