I might be able to get my hands on a crusty/rusty pair of 1940 long bed fenders and wonder if they would work on a 46 3/4 ton. They appear similar and I thought someone on the bolt would know for sure if they would work. Are the 40 long bed sides also the same as 46? I could kill two birds with one stone if they are .... thanks in advance

The fenders are slightly different. 1946 has additional holes to mount the fender to the bed, a sheet metal reinforcing plate on the rear lower flange, and different fender braces. 1940 fenders are the same as those used in 1941, however. There is no difference between half ton and three-quarter ton fenders.

My above comments were in regards to the fenders. (I didn't notice the comment about bed sides.) The fenders could be relatively easily adapted to a 1946 bed, and if done properly no one could tell the difference.

The beds have lots of differences, including a scrip tailgate and a different tailgate chain system. I have not studied the bed differences in depth. Anything can be made to fit but it will look like a frankentruck. It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

Thanks for your input .... just trying to find a pair of rear fenders that I can afford .... the glass ones with shipping prices so much higher this year are all but out of the question. I could at least repair metal ones if they are not too far gone. I have not had much luck in my search for rear metal ones and honestly did not realize that 1/2 and 3/4 ton were the same ..... somewhere along the way I got the notion they were different. Thanks again.
