Red flag, remover cover checked head number 3835517 216 .located number on passenger front to the left of distributor, kinda behind dipstick, number was LBA 685346 cannot find it anywhere motor is rebuilt with a metal tag on it -stating performance rebuilt motor so before I purchase it can anyone tell me what this is? A running shape 216 is worth about $200.00 max, unless it's a fresh rebuild with aluminum pistons, machined for insert rod bearings, etc. I have several 216's people have given me to haul 'em away!

Saves him trouble, IF he was going to scrap it. As a reference: CA craigslist(I guess you're in CA?) has a 216 with bell housing, foot start, 4 sp transmission, all accessories, flywheel, small vaseline jar, orig horn, glass fuel pump, all hooked together: $250 cash or trade. says 1948 1 1/2 ton donor. He even has the truck shown in the ad. Very Neat.

If it was recently rebuilt, ask him if he will guarantee at least 110psi compression in all cylinders (+/- 10psi overall) and 14psi oil pressure at 2000 rpm (warmed-up engine).
That might be worth $650 (but, $300 seems reasonable), with the other parts in usable condition.
