I bought my current truck and the gas cap was black like the running boards, and it looked pretty good, but you could tell it was only painted with black satin, not a regular gloss paint used on the rest of the truck. It was almost like they decided last minute to spray it, but then ran out out of the good stuff. Anyway, I painted it single stage black, and it looks great. But should it go body color? I really like it black, and that is probally how I will keep it. Just curious on your thoughts.......

That's a great question. I'm restoring mine to original and only care to paint it once and would like to do it as cloase to original as I can the first time. How about for the art decos? Also what is the original/correct color for the gas tank neck or even the inner fenders? Gloss Black, body color, satin black, ??? My goal is not to build a trailer queen but just to pay attention to all the details the first time around. I'm still very much in the beginning and have already made a few minor errors that I'll be redoing.

Nice truck!! I just love those art deco's. I was told that for my truck the gas cap should be painted the same color as the body. I have some old dealer material and some old postcards and all them show the gas cap the same color as the body of the truck. I guess I should looked further before placing this post. I do however like mine black. With my gas cap gloss black matching my running boards and mirrors, it seems to fit well.

I betcha yours would look good either way. Are you going to re-paint it green? I hope so. That is a sweet color.

I am 99 percent sure the inner fenders go black satin, but I hope someone else will chime in and let us know 100 percent. Mine are gloss black but again I am happy with that. I just like a nice even looking truck.

Good luck with yours and keep us posted with your photos.

Here is my 51 GMC, which I just sold, notice the chrome moon caps, bumpers, door handles, and gas cap, they all go along very well together......

And here is my 52 GMC, notice painted moon caps, bumpers, and black gas cap. I guess in late 51 chrome/stainless trim was becoming less available, hence more painted trim items.

I like a even looking truck. What ever floats the boat!!

5 inches of snow here. No truck driving, I think I am going to go crazy!!!

Yes I will be painting it the oroginal Brewster Green with the Black running boards and fenders. The truck had been repainted back in the late 70's to the current green. You can see the original green on the firewall in places. I agree, these are some great trucks. I'm probably a few years from finishing mine at the snails pace I'm going. I too hope others will chime in on this topic. The best is finding old pictures to compare against.
