Hello first timer here. I have inherited a 52 1/2 ton from my grandfather. Yes major project but complete. What is the hp rating on of these engines stock ? Im not sure of the displacement engine it is still in a barn.

Plan is to build an earlier style rod with on air bags

Welcome to the 'Bolt.

The stock 216 in a 3100 would be around 92hp and 176 lb-ft torque, peak gross values.

If you're actually considering butchering an original truck in restorable condition with air bag suspension, the handle fits! Why not find a trashed-out beater to tinker with, and save the old iron?

In my book, hacking up old original iron in restorable condition to make a "classic-esque" rod is the ultimate sin.. a level of evil paralleled only by men who wear socks with sandals.

yeah Village, welcome to the bolt! you'll find lots of answers here - even some that you weren't lookin for! grin

Fords are for 'earlier style rods', and they didn't have air bags in 'earlier days' - ol Chev trucks were a 'workin mans truck' in earlier days, and it would be a shame to chop up grandads tin when there's so many old rigs around w/ no family attachment or history

OTOH, if yer determined to bring the ol girl into the space age, you wanna hop over to the Jalopy Journal board where they do that kinda stuff a lot - lurk and check the tech tips, but if ya wanna post there, make sure you do an intro first grin
