Hello all
Just got this Big Bolt out of the families barn. I haven't got it home yet but its coming next week. It doesn't look to be in bad shape considering. Most all is there and not to much rust.Most of the glass is cracked. the engine did turn over so its not locked up.It only had 1 flat tire and it held air. It will be a different project than my all original 71 C10. She didn't need hardly anything. I cant wait to get it home to give it a good cleaning to start to see where I'm at. I'm sure I will have plenty of questions.

iceman4.

Welcome to stovebolt.com

To try to determine your year, see if there is a Vehicle Serial Number tag on the cab between the driver's side door hinge.

A few distinguishing characteristics between 49 and 50 are: modern-style tube shocks in 1950 and the 49 would have a maroon handle/knob on the driver's side cowl-vent.

I have the serial # 9TWSL 1145 and the build chart I have is a little confusing. Where is a good place to search for parts I know some part will interchange with the pickup but most will not.Thanks for any info

Iceman4,

Welcome to the Stovebolt wave

Your serial number breaks down as follows;

9 = Norwood, OH assembly plant
T = 1950
W = 6400 w/ 161" wheel base
S = Special (1-1/2 ton rated at 15000 gvw)
L = December
1145 = Unit number starting with 1001, so you have the 145th TWS out of plant #9.

Most mechanical parts can be found at NAPA, cab interior parts should be the same as the pickups...others will chime in to tell you about sheet metal differences.

WOW !, That's interesting. That "S" indicating it being a 15000lb. special order 1 1/2 ton is something special indeed. That's a "Rare" truck. On a regular, 1 1/2 ton trucks are rated at 14000lb., and are 4100, & 4400 series trucks. 6400 series trucks are usually 16000lb. rated 2 ton trucks.

Well the girl is at her new home. Started out pressure washing her down and giving her a good bath. Doesnt look to bad.Pics coming when i'm able to. It is interesting going thru the old girl and finding some of my uncles old tools and personal things.Pulled the plugs and filled the cylinders with some tranny fluid to soak for a while. Pulled the carb to rebuild (its kinda stuck) gonna pull fuel pump and clean and then try and start her off a gas can. Is there anything else I should do before I try and start her?

Now that you've got the BB's attention, you'll need to get a photo hosting site so you can start sharing some pictures of your big baby!

Here is a Tech Tip on restoring the big trucks.

Another fairly new one is The Advance Design Spotters Guide. Will help with some of those differences Tim mentioned.
