Am I correct that the rear tail Light on my 1951 chevy suburban barn door was the same from 1947-1956 ?Steele rubber advertises the tail light gasket for 1947-1950. I emailed them and told them the same tail light was used up to 1956. This is the response I received.

it's still the same light to 56, and other suppliers list the seal for 47-56, but Steele is pretty picky about having factory documentation /good originals to copy, so it might just be lack of documentation for them, very fair offer to refund if it doesn't work - but it will

I bet the reason that Steele does not think they are the same is because the Master Parts Catalog has to list them as different assemblies. All the parts in the assemblies are the same, except for the 12v bulb from 1955-2nd series onwards. So, the almost-identical 1955-2nd onwards 12v assembly has a different part number.

Added later - I think I am wrong on this. It looks like the assembly changed in 1955-2nd. The assembly should be the same for 47-55st

The only 47-55st difference that I can think of is how the connection/lead is made from the cab-body to the rear doors.

That should not affect the gasket/seal.

Right,1952 and up used the wire loom instead of the contact switch to activate the light. The light housing and gasket are the same.

you would think they'd know that.
