I have a 52 GMC 9430 1 ton with the original 216 in it. I have removed the motor some time ago and can't recall what was ,if anything, connected to the oil line fitting in the push rod gallery. I have attached a link to a picture that I have highlighted with a blue arrow. I took lots of pictures and I don't have any showing anything attached to it. If anyone has a picture of what should be there would sure help.

That is very similar to my Canadian 1951 1 Ton. If that is a 216 then that is the short side cover version, Canadian 216. That fitting should connect to a steel line that goes along and up through the head to connect to the rocker arm. I believe there is a restriction in that fitting to regulate the flow of oil.

I don't understand what I am looking at around the cylinders. Are those pieces of the head gasket?

Thanks truckernix;
I was assuming a line running up to the rocker assembly but I'll be darned that I can't remember. Thought I had lots of pictures but must have missed that before pulling it apart. I will have to look around my parts to find that line. Other then mouse crap I kept everything.

That was a real heavy crust of carbon on the head and pistons.

I just am taking my 216 apart now. I guess it is a little different from yours because my oil line goes through the middle section of the push rod assembly and then up to the rocker arm. Mine is a 41 special deluxe. It sounds like the principal is the same, however, that they both go to the rocker arms. Good luck.

Almost everything about the Canadian 216 appears to be based on the 1950-52 Chevrolet 235, except bore and stroke of course.

Mark, my pics did not turn out too well. But it is a single line with two right angle bends. It runs up and over to the middle of the head, and then up again. The line feeds a nozzle that sits in the middle of the rocker assembly and sprays oil on top of the rockers / head.

The fitting that screws into the block at the rear, that the tube attaches to, is a restrictor fitting, with a 1/16" hole through it.

Thanks for the pictures Stove and all the replies from everyone else. My oil line was under a bunch of other things, all tagged and ready to go back on….just totally forgot taking it off. Getting old sucks!

I read somewhere in the manual that if that line is removed, it has to be replaced with a new one....is that true to your guys experience? Or was what I reading referring to another oil line?

Judson,

That is what it says at the link I posted above - if the pipe s removed, replace it.

Wait to hear from people who have done this (or, who have successfully not done this).

I believe the line behind the distribution plate on the driver's side of the engine to the passenger side of the engine thru the block, has to be replaced with a new one once removed.

oh. that makes sense. its the line that goes through the block to the distributor. is it possible to take off the oil distributor on the driver side of the engine for cleaning without damaging or having to remove that line?

thanks, guys. I know my questions are a little misplaced because this particular post is for the Canadian 216 and mine is the US model, but I was in the same process of working on my oil distributor and lines so I thought I would ask. Thanks.
