For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 85 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 85 | Aloha, not a body work or paint question just a proper accessory application question here. This is for my '51 burb. there are 2 visors available thru 2 co-workers, 1 has a fulton and the other has what he is calling a "baseball cap, made by GM", I have never heard of the latter, seen them both, dig the baseball cap the most due to it's being different but like keeping my Burb genuine. Could anyone enlighten me on this subject? Aloha and many mahalo's in advance! | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 1,745 Member | | Member Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 1,745 | If they are both proper for your year and in the same condition, I believe the GM one is more valued. The thing to do is to get model numbers and check them against the accessory catalog.

The 54-55 early version is more of a "ballcap" style. That is the one that I want!, as it more closely fits with the one piece windshield on my 54 gmc carryall suburban. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2002 Posts: 358 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2002 Posts: 358 | Kimo, Splash has a good point. The Fulton complements the split windshield nicely because of the stainless 'center strip': It's the same width and profile as the windshield's center strip... Maybe for cars? Thanks for the inputs, keep 'em comin bruddas! | | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 62 Member | | Member Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 62 | Did they put sunvisors on 1940 pickups?? I assumed there was for the split windshield as well.

I've seen them offered in Hemmings, but never by the major parts suppliers. At the prices the originals fetch, there should be some incentive to make a decent copy. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 1,571 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 1,571 | Splashoil, if you go by that logic we'd see 3/4-1 ton GMC hubcaps and hood birds reproduced, too. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 85 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 85 | Aloha, I'm kinda "anal" about genuine stuff, gotta have it, when or if they ever post the pictures of my burb in the gallery you'll understand, in the mean time keep the replies coming. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 1,571 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 1,571 | Usually, when a good repop is available, the price of the original falls. There is no way the big GMC hubcaps would cost so much if you could order decent ones from the parts houses, for example. | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2001 Posts: 115 |

I'd still like to see the big GMC hubcaps repopped. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 85 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 85 | $1,279.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (when I last looked), man i mentioned being anal but at that price they can blow it out their a#* !!!!!!!!!!!!!hahaha. alooo-ha | | | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | | Anonymous Unregistered | Originally posted by GMCpanel: Ouch. I'd still like to see the big GMC hubcaps repopped. We are working on that right now. The minimum crank out is 1000 units on the die. Are there actually 250 people that need these caps ?? | | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 1,571 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 1,571 | MT, ask the Kook. He'd know better than I. All I know is that only 1 of my original caps made it through 50 years on the truck, and it has a big dent next to the "GMC." Thankfully, the dent missed the lettering. I think more people are going to be looking for 3/4-1 ton parts as the supply of restorable 1/2 ton trucks dwindles in many areas, so the market might be growing.
Would they be chrome or stainless? The Chevy caps listed at Chevy Duty are stainless, but the little GMC caps are chrome. I think I'd prefer to pay a bit extra for stainless.
Maybe someone should start a poll or something on here to see which parts might have a big enough market to reproduce. Any luck on those COE running board pads? | | | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | | Anonymous Unregistered | GMC panel. You are correct on the picked over avaliability of 1/2 ton stuff. Lotsa guys are stepping up into the 3/4 & 1 ton trucks. Many of these larger truck parts will never be reproduced.
Stay tuned on the COE fender pads. I think Spanky has " Steele " rubber working on that case.
The 3/4 & 1 ton GMC caps are easy to make. All we need is 250 people that need 'em & it can be done easily. Aint nobody gonna pay for the tooling & the minumum crank out of 1000 units unless there is a market for'em. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 85 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 85 | Back to visors here, pinned down the guy's at work and asked to explain in detail what they meant by "baseball cap", it turns out they are 1 piece, made for most postwar up until '53 split windshield CARS!! They work on trucks but are incorrect. That price on that fulton visor on ebay was crazy! It would be cool to have but I'd keep it in the box, soon as it's installed it's just a used visor and they're around for a lot cheaper than that!! As for re-pop, no way, especially if it's not made in the USA! Not for me thanks. Aloha --------------------------------------------------

If you are willing to put in the legwork at a few swap meets you can find restorable visors in the $150-$200 range. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 85 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 85 | Heard that PTL!! legwork! pomona's out of control but long beach I'll do. But if I can find one in the harbor area I won't even need to walk or pay admission!! Aloha!! | | | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | | Anonymous Unregistered | Swapmeets are a great place to find hail damaged & incomplete Fulton visors. Pomona fetches the highest prices on beat up visors. Long Beach has a different clientele & you will find better visors there [ for more $ ] | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 85 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 85 | So; pomona = high prices for junk and MILES of walking verses Long Beach with better quality but HIGHER prices????? IM SOOOOOOOO CONFUSED!!!!
BUT I oddly understand.......... | | |
