on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 131 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 131 | Hello,
I have a stock model 986067 radio from a 1949 Chevy truck and I was wondering what the hole in the top of the case is for. It looks like the power for the dial light, the "A" Lead power and the antennae all come into the case from the side (tone control side). I recently read on a thread here that the front plug is for testing the speaker.
What is the wire through the hole on the top of the case towards the back and on the tone control side for?

There's a rubber grommet in the hole and the power/light leads feed thru that hole: http://www.pbase.com/dennygraham/image/156977375DG

In the end, it makes no difference at all. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | That could be Fred, that's why I specified that the photo was of a -443. I lost the last 10 years of my life when my confuser crashed. All my pix and other reference material is on the old HD and I just can't talk myself into paying a hundred bucks to get it transferred to my new Dell. I thought the only difference in them was the slant back.1 DG

I think there is a blank hole in your chassis where the Olds radios used a second 6V6. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | Yes there is. I've got an Old's radio here I picked up at a swap meet, and it looks like the same chassis. It's got the push/pull setup. dg

They had to put it in there for some reason. I did see some literature confirming the power goes in a hole in that same location on the later years as Denny mentioned above and confirmed that the power goes in the side on the 986067.
I will have to do some more research and see what I can find | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | The power and light lead on your radio come out the left side. The wires go up vertical and under a strain relief clamp. | | |
