I have heard rumors that the third member from a 1955-1962 half ton truck rear axle assembly can be used to replace the torque tube unit in an Advance Design truck. Will it also fit a 1946 half ton truck axle assembly?

I don't think so. It fits The AD 47-54 but as far as I know the earlier ones were smaller.

Wrenchbender is not correct on this, been there done that.
Chevrolet started the hypoid diff in 1940 in 1/2 ton's and they kept the same bolt pattern and axle spline up
to 1962.
Some people think you can use this pumpkin in the pass housing, but the pass housing bolt pattern is smaller.
