Checked for straight 2 inside journals within .001, miced the inside of cam bearings and outside. Everything looks good the 2nd journal is tight with only a clearance of .0005 so it should go in but it doesn't. Seems as though the cam should be pulled up just as it is about to enter the bearings but the timing gear hits the crank gear. Should I 1. pull the crankshaft out and try to install the cam then the crank? 2. Or should I pull the 2nd cam bearing and hone it so I have a little more clearance according to the manual it should have over .001? Do you have the crankshaft in the right spot? Have timing marks lined up the back of the cam when in is probably .01 to high I can see light between the cam and the bottom of the cam bearing. Like I said I can't see that being a problem, unless the cam is hanging up in the tight bearing. We used to hone them to size once they were in the block. If he does manage to get the cam forced in, the clearance will get even closer and the bushing could spin with the cam.
