So, I have a clunking sound coming from the rockers of my '48 216 engine. I determine that one rocker has a strange thump to it. After removing the rocker assembly, I'm checking the pushrods, and notice that when I move the one for the problem rocker, the oil line that feeds the rockers moves.
Well that didn't seem right, so I remove the pushrod cover. The oil line for the rockers on my engine comes out of the block, crosses right over two pushrods (one of which its been hanging up on, hence the clunk) and comes up to the rockers. The line is also kinked at the flitting in the block. (Which partially explains the lack of oil at the front rockers I was seeing.)
Using my magnifying glass, I've search through all the engine cutaway pictures and it doesn't look like that oil line should be coming out the side and across the pushrods like that. There is a hole directly down from the rockers on the bottom by the distributer. I'm thinking that this is where the oil line should be coming up to the rockers.
So, is my assessment correct about tha oil line being incorrectly routed?
Next, what should I do about this? Why would some previous engine builder run the line like that? How hard is it to get at the area where the oil line should run??? :confused:
