does anyone have part numbers for the rear end pinion bearings, seals, etc? I'm looking at a full rear end rebuild, hoping to find some parts. It's a 1959 1 ton.
thanks!!

Hy seetz, these part numbers are SKF or C/R, pinion seal C/R 25970 Speedi-Sleeve 99259, pinon bearing front is SKF A1011, rear pinion bearing is SKF MU5205UM26, differential side bearings are SKF KD11786-Y. Did you still need a front wheel bearing cap? Hope that helps.

Speaking of rear end seals,my truck is a 48 3/4 ton chevy with stock 4.56 rear end. I have a slow leak, about 4drops of oil every 24 hrs that is coming from the front of the rear end out of the differential carrier, the shop manual shows an oil seal at that position. The truck runs great,no problem, my question is after looking at that area it looks like the bolts have not been touched in 60 years, how big a job is it to replace that seal and what problems have other bolsters run into,is it better just to leave it as is and just replace the oil as needed. Thanks

that is what I had happen, and now it looks like the bearings have died as well. I'm thinking now I should've started preparing for a rebuild awhile ago

sansaba,
if you have no play in the bearing as it sits, you probably only need to replace the seal. The pinion nut takes quite a bit of torque to remove but the bearing retainer plate is easy to remove. It is not unusual to find grooves in the shaft where the seal rides. There is a speedy sleeve available to fix that problem.

Thanks for the help. Since my truck is a 3/4 ton it's hard to find these parts since most vendors sell the more common 1/2 ton. Does anyone know a source for all the seals and bearings that would be needed for a rear end rebuild on a 3/4 ton. I guess when we take it apart if there is a part number on the bearing we could then try SKF. Thanks again
