That would be 405 results! Not a thing pertaining to the replacement of the liner. I’d like to get the liner in this weekend but!
From what I can see the liner has to fit over the outside of the upper, lower and side flanges in the opening. I saw somewhere that there was a trim ring that went inside on a ‘48 or ‘49, mine is a ‘50. Can anyone shoot me a picture of that, the liner was out of mine when I got the truck and there are no other parts for the glove box. I see now that I should have ordered the J-Hooks and screws when I ordered the liner from the vendor, by the way, just what are the J-Hooks and Slide?? Luckily I just picked up an assortment of J-nuts from HF last week. Not sure how this liner is going to fit around the hinges, there is one big hole, I assume for the spring/pivot and one small hole, not sure what that is for. The original was cut out to go round the hinge, I suppose that is what I should do with the repro. It looks like there is going to be a gap on the sides of the liner, no screws to hold it in there, not to tidy is it! Anyone replaced one of these, and have any comments? Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

I installed it from the front pushing it through the glove box opening. Just take your time and try not to scar the box up inserting it. Once the box was in the opening, I just reached underneath and back of the box to hold it in place for the mounting screws. I had to take the heater hose off which gave me a little more room and then just pushed it back on the heater after I installed the box. I had to use a short flat bladed screwdriver to pop the top, bottom, and both sides behind the glove box flanges where the screws are inserted. The j-hooks are not on replacement boxes. Lucky for me, I had the old box and just pulled them off, straightened the hooks and hammered them on the new box. Chevy Duty (Classic Parts) sell the j-hooks if you don't have them. | | | | | Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,271 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,271 | Like Jon D says, you push it through the front, carefully, until it goes past the opening and relaxes to full size again ... as you are pushing it in, it's inside the frame of the glovebox opening where the mounting/screw holes are but once you install it, it's outside the frame: Mine is modified, as you can see, to accomodate my AC/Heat Unit.

Someone had mentioned that it did but I don't remember where I heard that. Jon, I was going to use the old nuts also but they are pretty rusty so I went with the new J-nuts. Denny G

I was going to order one but shipping is too much. Can you get them at the local NAPA and be used for 6 volt. | | | | | Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,271 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2003 Posts: 1,271 | Hey, Jon
I can't remember who I ordered the glove box stuff from ... I think it might have been Brothers ... but anyway, I ordered the glove box light with a bunch of other stuff so the shipping costs weren't so much of a bite, you know?
Wherever you buy one, if it's for 6 volts a 12-volt light won't do.
Hmmm ... I just checked my catalogs and it looks like it was Brothers -- they list the glove box light for 1947 - 1972. I doubt they're the same for '47 as they are for '72 ('47 would be 6 volt) ... you might call them and ask: 800-977-2767

You supply the right voltage bulb. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | A bit blurry but you should be able to get the idea: http://www.pbase.com/dennygraham/image/156822658By the way, back in '06 when I posted this thread, I finally gave up on the two boxes I got from vendors and made my own using panel board from an upholstery shop. That was made using the original for a pattern and it fit perfect and looks absolutely like the original box. DG
