i need to know if there is a
difference from a hydramatic
and a 3 speed on the master cyl?
i need one for a hydramatic trans.

Hy keithfielder, there is no special master cylinder for Hydramatic equipped trucks that I'm aware of. However if you were to tell us the year, size, and engine in the vehicle in question I could make a specific check.

my truck is a 1954 1/2 ton with
hydramatic and a 235 cu.in.,
it is all stock.

The 1954 Chevrolet 3100 truck master cylinder is different from the other 1954 3100 master cylinder. It has a different-size brake-line port, most likely because the brake lines are routed differently on the Hydra-Matic-equipped 3100.

I have used the manual transmission truck master cylinder with a fitting adapter.

The 1954 Chevrolet truck Hydra-Matic transmission was not cooled by the radiator

There was a cooler unit that was either standard or optional on other vehicles. If you have a cooler, it was added.

Greg Hill might know about a cooler on a Hydra-Matic for another vehicle. Jerry probably knows. I have big GMC manuals that I will not have access to until Friday..

According to the 47-54 Factory Assembly Manual,
Section 7, Sheet 3.12
Hydra-Matic Oil pan cooler was used on the 3800 & 3900 models.

3800 model: Rear Oil pan cooler hose was snaked up the fire wall over the valve cover and connected to a nipple, locate on top the head. Just behind the temperature sensor, above the rear exhaust port on the head.
Here is a Picture of temperature sensor hole, on this truck the hole for the rear pan hose was plugged and the REAR PAN NIPPLE was looped together with the front nipple .

Front Oil pan cooler hose was snaked up the frame/passenger fender skirt and connected to a nipple on the water pump.
The front oil pan hose is the inlet into the oil pan.

I guess there is a difference between Manual & Automatic tranny Brake Master Cylinder.
Like Tclederman says the difference is in the plumbing size.
