My 55 gmc has a 6 bolt hydramatic flywheel and the 52 gmc 248 that wants to power it has a 4 bolt crankshaft :mad: | | |

No 2 holes line up but the flywheel/flexplate 6 bolt has a recess in it for the end of crank 3" circle and the crank shaft 4 bolt has the a lip on the 4 bolts holes so flexplate would not fit flat
looks like the 248 crank takes manual shift only.
Ever hat a 53 hydramatic apart? Did the military have hydramatic in the 40s and early 50s? Bill | | |

I know the Chevy has 6 bolts but I do not remember if the GMC had a 4-hole flywheel for the Hydramatic. Looks like my 52(248) will take manual shift only
I did email autotran, and have made a few phone calls. gmc went to 6 bolt cranks in the hydramatic in 53 then all 6 bolt soon after. a year or two newer 248 and it would have the 6 bolt crankshaft.

They are involved in the automatic adapters for early engines and may have some information. I believe they make flex-plates to do this. | | |

Bufflo said the same hydramatic won't work with 4 bolt crank.
So I Will have a rebuilt 248 allready to put in my next GMC with the manual shift tranmission.
I have the military 302 that should bolt up to the 55 hydramatic it has the 6 bolt crankshaft. Got any tips on that motor swap? Bill | | |
