Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2014 Posts: 161 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2014 Posts: 161 | My oil pan got dented and it pushed the tube up so it wasn't picking up oil very well. I pounded out the pan and straightened the tube but it still sits too low. It's resting right in the bottom of the pan and I think it is restricting flow. I searched parts suppliers but I can't seem to find a source for a new tube and screen. I think I either need one of those or a different pan. My motor is a 59 235 full pressure with hydraulic lifters. Anybody know where I can find parts?---Jack

It is threaded into the pump so it moved easily. With it horizontal however, the screen sits right in the bottom of the pan. I had to pound it out to get the pan back on.There is slight possibility that the pump isn't installed all the way. That may provide the proper clearance. I'll be checking that next.---Jack photobucket picture

Put a floor jack under the pickup with a piece of 2X4 on it and push the pickup tube up a little to create 1/4" of clearance or so. Jerry

It would also be a good idea to make sure that the sealing surface of the oil pan matches the bottom of the engine block to make sure you won't have any leaks. That will be difficult to do with the engine in the truck and even more difficult to pound on it to make it fit. A spare block would come in handy for this operation. Carl

The pickup tube is threaded into the side of the pump so when I push up on it it threads further into the pump but because of the shape of the tube it goes up at an angle. When it is in far enough for the bend in the tube to clear the pan bottom the screen is tipped up at an angle several inches above the bottom. I'm trying to say that it doesn't fit my pan. Where can I find a different tube/screen?Or maybe a deeper pan? Is there such a thing?---Jack | | |
